What Is Daniels Spectrum

Each year, we provide subsidized bookings in our event spaces. These spaces include the Ada Slaight Hall and the Artscape Lounge. These subsidies are made possible thanks to the generosity of The Slaight Family Foundation and revenues raised by The Journey. Applications are reviewed by the Artscape staff and a selection committee comprised of Regent Park community members.

Priority is given to individuals and organization from Regent Park, and organizations serving the Regent Park community. In addition, priority is given to first-time applicants as well as events that are free of charge.

Successfull applicants are entitled to one subsidized rental per year.  Events or activities that are soley religious in nature or those that include the proselytization of religious beliefs will not be considered eligible for subsidy under this program (but will be strongly considered if they include an artistic or cultural component).

Please note: no fee will be charged to your for the room itself, however, it is the responsibility of the user(s) to cover additional costs such as technicians, security, venue supervisor, etc.

If you require assistance with this application, please contact Elle Alconcel at ealconcel@artscape.ca

The Daniels Spectrum Summer Series program is a program of the Toronto Artscape Foundation that is funded by the generosity of an anonymous donor.

Now in its sixth year, the purpose of this program is to animate the outdoor spaces of Regent Park during the summer months with a diverse range of free, community focused, arts programming. Examples of previously funded initiatives have included outdoor film screenings, drop-in dance and drama programs, interactive street art installations, outdoor concerts, bi-weekly community block parties and much more.

We invite you to read this call and submit an application by Friday May 25, 2017 at 12:00pm to become part of an initiative that aims to bring fun programming and activities to the streets of Regent Park, engage and inspire youth and families and provide meaningful training and employment opportunities.

Successful applicants will:

  • Receive a maximum of $5,000 to run their initiative
  • Receive some in-kind staffing and equipment from Artscape
  • Receive supplementary marketing and promotional support as part of the overarching Summer Series marketing plan
  • Become part of a growing initiative that engages and inspires Regent Park residents through free outdoor arts and cultural programming

PLEASE NOTE: While a key goal of the initiative is to engage youth aged 14-29 as staff, volunteers and participants, Artscape also encourages applications geared to all age groups.

Priority will be given to applications made by Regent Park organizations and individuals; however this call is open to organizations based outside the Regent Park community, provided they collaborate with a Regent Park organization or community member (Artscape defines a Regent Park community member as a person who is currently active in the Regent Park community, e.g. a current or former resident, or a staff or volunteer working with a Regent Park based organization). Please be sure to include the contact information of the partnered Regent Park organization or community member on your application (under "Secondary Contact").

For applicants unfamiliar with the Regent Park community it is suggested that you identify potential local community partners. However, it is the responsibility of the applicant to contact local community partners to develop partnerships and collaborations. Please connect with elle alconcel at Daniels Spectrum via email at ealconcel@artscape.ca if you have any questions.

Events or activities of a religious nature or those that include the proselytization or evangelization of religious beliefs will not be eligible for funding under this program.

About Summer Series

Daniels Spectrum Summer Series launched six years ago thanks to the generosity of anonymous donors to the Artscape Foundation. Their donations have enabled Artscape to support and partner with several community partners to produce free outdoor summer programming and events in Regent Park, the majority of which are targeted at youth. This year, Artscape is looking for five community partners to animate the public spaces near Daniels Spectrum (with an emphasis on programming on Regent Park Boulevard, and other possible outdoor locations), in the midst of the third and largest phase of the Regent Park revitalization.

You will also be required to complete and submit a budget and marketing strategy template for your proposed program.  Click the links below to download the budget and marketing strategy templates.
